Sales Capacity Calculator: How many inbound leads does an SDR need?
Table of content

Every salesperson loves and needs them: inbound leads generated by the marketing team.

For every Sales Development Representative and/or Account Executive, a constant flow of high-quality inbound leads is of critical importance.

In this article, we show you how many leads a Sales Development Rep can and should ideally handle.

And how you, as a sales manager, can communicate these requirements to your marketing team.

The questions we are asked most frequently by CMOs, CROs, marketing managers, and heads of sales development are as follows:

How many inbound leads can a Sales Development Representative (SDR) handle?
How many MQLs does the marketing team need to deliver so that my sales team has enough work?

Many marketing and sales leaders face the challenge of providing an appropriate number of inbound leads for a Sales Development Representative.

However, this is crucial for revenue success and team satisfaction.
‍

Here is the answer to inbound capacity planning:

What you should know first! 👇

  1. The better the generated Marketing Qualified Leads match your ideal customer profile, the more likely it is that the Sales Development team can successfully work with these leads.
    ‍
  2. We recommend that leads are at least pre-verified by the marketing team and meet the following criteria: phone number known and validated, company known, persona known, and more, as required.
    ‍
  3. For the SDR team, no administrative effort is required to upload leads into the CRM; all leads are already correctly placed in the internal CRM system (e.g., Hubspot, Pipedrive, Salesforce, etc.).
    ‍
  4. Calls and emails are handled directly from within the CRM system
    ‍
  5. A clear structure for SDRs regarding tasks and new incoming leads, so that SDRs can focus on getting their work done
    ‍

Capacity Planning

  1. An SDR can process about 15 new Marketing Qualified Leads per day.
    ‍
  2. An SDR can and should perform about 10-30 manual activities per hour.
